Fish Farms in the area around the Volta Lake face unprecedented challenges. These follow from the illegal importation of fish and fingerlings from South East Asia. The selfish, short-sighted greed of a few people has introduced bacteria and viruses that have contaminated the water.

Ghana Aquaculture Stakeholders (GAS ) seek action to resolve this issue. Our efforts complement other ongoing initiatives. The stakeholders have now met twice and will continue to meet until a level playing field is established. Everyone must follow the correct procedures. Rogue players who act illegally to pursue short-term profit must be identified and driven out of the industry. The sector operators in collaboration with all agencies will we hope  collectively work to address this environmental and economic disaster facing those who have invested in the sector.
